| NY Cares Event for LGBT Youth Centers |

| Meeting Point - 446 West 36th Street |
|
|
|
|
|
|
| Cost: FREE |
This Pride Month, join Deutsche Bank, the Interbank Roundtable and NY Cares for three hours in support of LBGT Youth Centers!
In a 2006 report from the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force, estimates show that a third of homeless youth identify themsleves as LBGT. In New York city, this implies that a staggering 8-10,000 youth are without a home every night. The Ali Forney Center and Sylvia's Place are committed to addressing this 'epidemic' among the homeless youth. Both of these shelters provide food, shelter, and, in the case of Ali Forney, job placement assistance.
In coordination with NY Cares, volunteers will lend a much needed hand in sprucing up these clinics. Offices and meeting areas will be painted. Donations and pantry items will be sorted and organized. In general all volunteers will be tasked with making the shelter more welcoming and hospitable for these underserved youth. Your help is needed!
Location: Meeting Point - 446 West 36th Street
Shelter 1 - Sylvia's Place
Shelter 2 - The Ali Forney Center
All volunteers will meet afterwards at a location (TBD) for lunch and networking.
This event is limited to 50 volunteers and the majority of the spots are already filled. Please RSVP as soon as possible.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We will be at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for LGBT Women's Night (part of our Art & Cocktails Series) on Friday, June 11, 6-9 pm.
From 6-7 pm we will mix and mingle and listen to a short talk, prepared just for us, by Harold Koda, Curator in Charge (The Costume Institute) about American Woman.
At about 7PM we will head upstairs to the 2nd floor to view the Costume Institute Exhibit:
American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity
Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Exhibition Hall, 2nd floor (next to the Cantor Sculpture Gallery)
American Woman is the first exhibit from the newly established Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection at the Met. It will explore developing perceptions of the modern American woman from 1890 to 1940 and how they have affected the way American women are seen today. Focusing on archetypes of American femininity through dress, the exhibition will reveal how the American woman initiated style revolutions that mirrored her social, political, and sexual emancipation. View Gibson Girls, Bohemians, and Screen Sirens, among others, and how they lay the foundation for today's American woman.
The exhibition is made possible by Gap.
Additional support is provided by Condé Nast.
Afterwards, we will take the elevator or stairs to the 1st floor--perhaps viewing American Art: 1902-1945 and the artwork of Georgia O'Keefe--en route to the Petrie Court Cafe and Wine Bar for cocktails, food and conversation. (Note the Met will have extra staff on hand for our group).
We invite all of our Ivy League, Seven Sisters, NYU, Stanford, Duke, UVA, Georgetown, Northwestern, Williams Amherst, University of California, & Emory friends. Alumni, faculty, staff, & students 21+ are welcome, too.
Organized by Yale GALA and FFR/Princeton BTGALA and Shawn Cowls with co-hosts Brown TBGALA, Columbia Pride, CUGALA (Cornell), Dartmouth GALA (DGALA), Duke LAN, Financial Services Industry Exchange (FSIX), HGLC (Harvard Gay & Lesbian Caucus), NUGALA (Northwestern), Penn GALA and Stanford Pride.
MANY THANKS to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for hosting us.
This is an LGBT Women's Event but men are welcome to attend (as always).
